outfit essentials: summer ’16

SUMMER IS HERE & it’s time to get heads turning with trendsetting styles. The key to finding the perfect summer outfit is conquering the substantial heat, while still being comfortable & adorable.

Living in OHIO, I understand one day it could be mid 60’s and cloudy, while two days later is 94 degrees and extremely humid. My goal is to help you find basic pieces you can build an outfit around, no matter the occasion.

My closet is filled with many staple pieces I can dress up or down- need be. It’s all in the accessories, layering, & shoes. Remember the “staple” black dress that no girls closest should exist without? I’m redesigning that functionality to fit your fashion needs on an everyday basis.

Let’s begin. I hear this all the time: “I just don’t know how to wear this” or “I don’t know if I could pull this off.” Well my answer to this is…TRY IT! Search on Pinterest. Try it on. Ask a friend. BUT never come to a conclusion without giving it a try. If you would have never tried pizza for the first time, how would you know that it’s the best thing on earth? Exactly my point- TRY IT.

I have three essentials for your closet this summer. Many of you could guess all three items I am about to tell you, but for those of you who can’t…here they are:

  • ROMPER

Rompers will be your “go-to” this summer. We all have the issue where dresses are cool and all, but after awhile you get sweaty and your legs start rubbing together leaving you very uncomfortable. AM I RIGHT?!

Now that we’re on the same page, find a romper (preferably a neutral color) that you love & feel comfortable in. You will thank me, I promise. If you’re not sure about the fit, get a size up. I am normally a medium in dresses; however, I make sure to get a size up in rompers so everything fits in the right places (all my big booty Judy’s will understand).

Hot or cold? You can wear a cardigan. Dress up or down? Heels vs. Flats. The choice is yours, all that matters is you have a basic piece to start your outfit. Pick your jewelry & out the door you go.

  •  CAUSAL DRESS

Yes, I know I just dissed the dress…but a causal, comfortable dress will come in handy. A dress can save your day too; beats having to pick out a top and bottom, saves laundry, hangs in your closet nicely (no folding required). YAS.

See what I mean, dresses aren’t the bad guy. I stock my closet full of t-shirt dresses & swing dresses. These don’t have much shape to them, but are super comfy when it comes to wearing it all day. Neutral solid colors or stripes are both super trendy this summer so stock up.

Just like the romper you can wear it for any occasion. Learn what accessories dress up an outfit versus what accessories dress it down. Again, search on Pinterest for more ideas than just mine. Find your style & rock it.

  •  Neutral Footwear

If you follow me on my social media accounts, you all know I love my strappy sandals. Find shoes that are comfortable, functional, but STYLISH. Strappy sandals are a huge hit is summer, as well as Converse and Vans. All comfortable & trendy. Black, white, tan or brown sandals will match just about any outfit. Make neutrals your BFF this summer.

That’s it. Minus a few jewelry accessories, but other than that you can make several outfits out of a few essential pieces. I wish you the best of luck shopping. Always shop on a budget, look for the best deals, and have a big imagination. You can do a lot with a little if you think outside the box.

Everyone is more than welcome to stop in at Plato’s Closet in Findlay & I will happily assist you in personal shopping (it’s my fave so come see me). Wishing you always look forward to getting dressed for the day, have confidence, & feel like a rock star.

Until next time, Be True. Be You.
HAVE A BLESSED WEEK.
God is good.❤️
